Sensorise Unveils Made-in-India Wega M1 4G IoT Module at IMC 2026

Sensorise has unveiled its Made-in-India Wega M1 4G IoT module at IMC 2026, with plans for a Q1 2027 launch. The Qualcomm-based module targets connectivity security, data sovereignty and long-term IoT deployments.

Sensorise has unveiled its next-generation Wega M1 GSM module at India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, introducing an India-developed 4G connectivity solution designed to address security, data sovereignty and compliance requirements in the country’s machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem.

The module was unveiled by Union Minister for Communications Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, who said he was pleased to note that India now has a Made-in-India module serving as a bridge, or “SETU”, between devices and telecom networks.

Designed and manufactured in India, Wega M1 is intended to provide secure, reliable and scalable IoT connectivity while supporting the country’s Make in India objectives, data sovereignty goals and the development of its domestic semiconductor and electronics ecosystem. Sensorise plans to take the module to market in Q1 2027, with select initial deployments planned with anchor customers.

The initiative comes amid concerns about the reliance on imported cellular modules in a market currently dominated by global players. Sensorise said the need for an India-developed module was driven by recent security incidents in the country involving modules, particularly those concerning data sovereignty and cybersecurity. With the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) implementing policies for SIM personalisation in India and network elements being developed domestically, the company believes an Indian module completes the compliance framework for connectivity.

The 4G module is based on the Qualcomm® 216 LTE IoT Modem and provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), original equipment suppliers (OES) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) with an India-developed alternative to imported cellular modules. Its pin-compatible design approach is intended to simplify migration and reduce the need for hardware redesign.

Wega M1 is designed for applications across smart metering, electric vehicles (EVs), point-of-sale (POS) systems, asset tracking, logistics and industrial IoT. Its features include high-performance LTE connectivity, multi-operator and multi-IMSI capabilities, eSIM and GSMA-compliant remote provisioning support, and a 10–15-year lifecycle for long-term IoT deployments. The module also integrates QoSIM for connectivity monitoring and analytics.

The product has been designed with applicable DoT, MTCTE/TTC, information security (InfoSec) and data-governance requirements in mind, combining connectivity performance, security considerations, regulatory readiness and long-term support for OEMs.

Commenting on the launch, Manmeet Singh, Business Head, Automotive, Connectivity, Broadband & IoT, Qualcomm India Pvt. Ltd., said, “Qualcomm is committed to enabling reliable, power-efficient cellular connectivity for a wide range of IoT applications. We are pleased to support Sensorise as it brings an India-developed module to market and contributes to the continued growth of the IoT ecosystem in India.”

Karn Nagpal, President, Sensorise, said the launch marked an important milestone in the company’s vision to build trusted connectivity infrastructure for India. He linked the product’s development and future adoption to the government’s focus on data sovereignty and cybersecurity, describing Wega M1 as an important compliant product for the Indian market.

Nagpal said Sensorise was developing a strong future roadmap for the module to address network enhancements and emerging use cases. He added that troubleshooting a customer problem had given the company greater clarity about the need for such a product. Given Sensorise’s installed and growing base, he also identified bundled eSIM and 4G modules as an opportunity for both the company and the wider industry.

“The future of IoT/M2M will be plug-and-play Made-in-India components supporting the government’s vision of 1 billion IoT/M2M devices,” Nagpal said.

Sensorise Smart Solutions, a registered M2M Service Provider with the Department of Telecommunications, provides M2M eSIM and IoT connectivity solutions across utilities, mobility, retail, logistics and industrial IoT.

With its planned market introduction in Q1 2027 and initial deployments targeted with anchor customers, Wega M1 represents Sensorise’s effort to expand the availability of domestically developed cellular connectivity components for India’s IoT and M2M ecosystem.
